| Comments: Between 10th and 14th March, 2008, the food and beverage industry will gather at Alimentaria. Meat products and the HORECA channel will be the stars of the 17th edition of this trade show. Placing Intercarn and Restaurama in Fira Barcelona’s Montjuic venue will reinforce the organic expansion of these two sectors and enable them to be as specialized as possible. Concentrating the remaining exhibitions – 13 in total – in Gran Vía will enable exhibitors to benefit from substantially greater synergies. This new exhibition layout, which makes it possible to split off Intercarn – a specialized exhibition – and Restaurama – and exhibition which cuts across sector lines – the organization seeks to please as many exhibitors from the different sectors as possible.
Another innovation for Alimentaria 2008 is that for the first time in its history, two of the trade show’s areas – Innoval and a new tasting area dedicated to tapas – will be open to the general public.
New parallel activities
Spain’s most important food and beverage trade show, one of the world’s top shows of this kind, continues its emphasis on training and leisure. Innovation in retail, intelligent shopping (Innoval), Spain and its Iberian pork products (Intercarn) and the World Pizza Championship (Restaurama) are just a few of the activities to be inaugurated at Alimentaria 2008 to animate the event.
For its part, the first Barcelona Cooking Race will take place 13 - 16 March. This regatta will make an exceptional showcase for leading brands from the food sector. With this sports event, the trade fair’s organizers seek to create the perfect combination of sport and healthy food.
Alimentaria all year round
Alimentaria 2008 will strengthen the trade show’s more creative aspects, those which make it a platform for research, development and innovation. Classic offerings such as BCN Vanguardia; Vinorum; the International Food Forum; the International Mediterranean Diet Conference; Spain and its Oils; Spain, the Land of 100 Cheeses; and the Interpesca Conference will once again be the focus for the sector.
It is noteworthy that some of the parallel activities which will form part of Alimentaria have enabled the trade show to move beyond its limitations in terms of time and space. For example, support for the Frozen Food Month campaign with AECOC as well as sponsorship of Caterdata’s Cook of the Year Contest and taking part in each of its semi-finals, form part of the trade show’s plan to expand into other seasons.
More international than ever
For the 2008 edition, internationalization will once again be one Alimentaria’s key elements. Cooperation, distribution and innovation projects involving Latin American countries, Eastern Europe, Asia and the United States will return to bring about over 7,200 business meetings which will bear fruit in the form of trade agreements totalling more than 1,800 million euros.
Likewise, Alimentaria will reinforce its status as an international business centre through the presence of over 1,500 firms from outside Spain and close to 33,000 foreign visitors.
The organizers also expect to top the previous edition’s figures: more than 152,000 visitors and close to 4,300 exhibitors, bringing 167 million euros in business to the city of Barcelona.
